Verger

Miriam is a life long Anglican who served in many roles in the Church, primarily in the Diocese of New Westminster. One of her most fulfilling ministries there was working with families during the Celebration of Life/Funeral services.

Miriam and her husband Barry moved to Kamloops about 10 years ago to be closer to their daughter.  They have been active members of St. Paul’s since that time. When asked by Dean Ken, to become the Verger, she was pleased to say yes.

There are many descriptions of a Verger’s duties listed in various publications but here at St. Paul’s Cathedral most of the work is about supporting families planning for and during Celebrations of Life and on rare occasions, weddings.  The Verger responds to specific requests and concerns, prepares for the service, sets up the sanctuary and welcomes folks helping them to feel comfortable. The Verger also oversees other aspects of our worship life as required coordinating carefully with our Altar Guild.

Miriam appreciates the opportunity to serve God in this way and is also thankful that she does not have to be at the church early to light the furnace and sweep the church and sidewalk before the clergy arrives!
