St. Paul’s Way-Seekers WILD RIDE 2023
St. Paul’s Cathedral to St. Peter’s Monte Creek WILD Ride 2022
This fundraising campaign is for our partners who serve refugees and displaced people in Tanzania, South Sudan, Jordan, Ukraine and more.
According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), in 2023 approximately 177 million people – more than three times the population of Canada – will be forced to leave their homes or countries. It is the highest number in history. The media reports a fraction of the journeys to safety that can often be very perilous, all-too-frequently meeting a tragic end. According to the United Nations International Organization for Migration, migrant deaths in the Central Mediterranean have hit a six-year high in 2023.
Carolyn Cummins, PWRDF’s Director of Fundraising and Supporter Relations says,
“The majority of refugees are in protracted situations, living in exile for more than five years, and often decades. The number of refugees in need of resettlement to another country has increased significantly, but unfortunately only a fraction will ever be offered an opportunity to relocate to countries such as Canada. The rest remain displaced, mostly in low to middle income countries which do not have the resources to care for their needs. PWRDF partners are caring for displaced individuals and families with support for income generation, improved food security, medical care, counselling, and more.”
“Sunday, July 23: St. Paul’s Way-Seekers WILD RIDE – Joy will cycle from St. Paul’s Cathedral at 8 am to arrive at St. Peter’s Monte Creek in time for their 10 am service. Meet members of St. Peter’s and discover a scavenger hunt answer. Contact Joy Gothard (250-372-5594) to join her or for more information.”
Enjoy the hunt in one day or over a few days this summer. Invite a friend or two or three to join you as you walk, cycle, or car pool to Seek the answers.
Whether you go all or part of the 92 Km or guess the answers, we will gather together to celebrate our results near the end of October.
Have Fun and Enjoy the Wild Ride in solidarity with refugees and displaced people.
